Datacastle Technology
Datacastle's technology is one of the key factors that sets us apart from the competition. Following are some highlights of our patent pending approach to data protection and restoration.

END USER FEATURES
  • Intuitive User interface: a critical design element of Datacastle is a simple, intuitive, and elegant user interface that presents no obstacles to use.
  • Continuous Data Protection (CDP): data is automatically backed up whenever it changes, as frequently as one-minute intervals, whether online or offline.
  • Easy file recovery: data retrieval is so simple that it is accomplished with only a few mouse clicks.
  • Disconnected state support: changed data is stored in a local cache, allowing file recovery even if the offsite Vault is not available. Once reconnected, all changed data is transmitted to the Vault.
SECURITY FEATURES
  • Random encryption key: a critical element of our maximum security — unlike our competitors — is that Datacastle’s software generates a truly random encryption key.
  • AES encryption: data is encrypted with 256-bit AES encryption on the client before the data leaves the PC.
  • Secure transport: 128-bit SSL is used to transport data from the Client to the Vault.
  • Encryption key management: Datacastle's patent pending automated encryption key management system securely escrows the user's key so only the user can access it.
  • Locked and unlocked files: files are continuously protected whether they are locked or unlocked.
  • Lock, Wipe, Trace™: protects data on lost or stolen computers.
IT FEATURES
  • Installation: set-up is fast, simple, and well within the ability of most IT organizations to implement in a few days.
  • End user self-service: Datacastle configuration for backup and restore operations is so simple that it is accomplished with only a few mouse clicks by the end user without need for IT resource support.
  • File versioning: unlimited numbers of versions of a file are supported, enabling version restore from specific dates and times.
  • Differential backup and restores: only the data that needs to be transmitted goes over the network, minimizing bandwidth usage.
  • Non-disruptive: backups occur in the background for minimal performance disruption.
  • Disconnected protection: data is continuously protected even when the PC is not connected to the network/Internet, and then securely uploaded whenever network access is established.
  • Bandwidth throttling: only the available network bandwidth is used so that the user's other applications are not impacted.
  • Processor throttling: only the available CPU capacity is used so that the user's other applications are not impacted.
  • Open file support: utilizing Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy technology, open file support is built-in.
  • Flexibility: our software components are flexible enough to be implemented in a variety of ways and can be configured to provide a single service or multiple services.
  • Scalability: Datacastle can scale from a single-server Vault appliance to a multi-server redundant Vault system.
  • Disk storage: the Vault can utilize nearly any type of standard disk storage subsystem: DAS, NAS, or SAN.
PROVIDER FEATURES
  • Data stays on Provider's network: Client device and Vault both exist on the Provider's network, eliminating peering and transfer costs for large uploads.
  • Implementation: our software components can be implemented in a variety of ways, accommodating the provider's existing infrastructure, and can be configured to provide a single service or multiple services.
  • Scalability:Datacastle can scale from a single-server Vault appliance up to a multi-server redundant Vault system, easily growing with customer subscriptions
  • Data repository: the Vault can utilize nearly any type of standard disk storage subsystem: DAS, NAS, or SAN.
